Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Jianchao's Remarks on UN Secretariat's Rejection of Taiwan Authorities' Application
2007-07-25

Q: The UN Secretariat announced that it had rejected and returned the Taiwan Authorities' application letter of "joining the UN under the name of Taiwan". What's your comment?

A: The UN Secretariat has rejected and returned the Taiwan Authorities' application letter of "joining the UN under the name of Taiwan". This decision complies with the UN Charter and Resolution 2758 of the UN General Assembly, reflects the universally-recognized one China principle held by the UN and the vast majority of its member states. China highly appreciates this. We believe the UN and its member states will continue to understand and support the efforts of the Chinese Government and people in pursuing the just cause to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity.
