The following documents should be submitted for Chinese visa:
1. Passport with at least 6 months remaining validity and available blank pages for visa;
2. One properly completed visa application form, which could be obtained from the Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General in person, or be downloaded from the website.
3. A recent (within 6 monthes) passport-size photo stuck on the visa application form;
4. First-time Visa Application by Former Chinese Citizens
A. When applying for a Chinese visa for the first time after naturalization, former Chinese citizens who were born on the
Mainland of China must provide the following besides the above-mentioned requirements:
a. The original Chinese passport with a copy of the photo page;
b. A copy of the renewal page, if any;
c. A copy of the Certificate of Naturalization or other naturalization documentation if the Chinese passport has expired;
d. Official record of name change if the name changes if the name on the current passport is different from that on the
Chinese passport;
e. Marriage Certificate if the applicant's surname has been changed to her husband's;
B. When applying for a Chinese visa for the first time after naturalization, former Chinese citizens who were born in
Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan must provide the original and a copy of picture identity documents containing his/her Chinese
name, e.g. travel document, birth certificate, and resident card, etc
5. Other relevant documents for different types of visa:
1) for Business "F" visa: an official invitation letter from the authorized Chinese government departments, companies or institutions (Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit / Confirmation Letter of Invitation).
2) for Tourist/Family-visit "L" visa: Except those travelling to Tibet, no additional documents are required for "L" visa applicants. Please note that the Chinese Embassy or Consulate-General does not issue individual visa for tourists to Tibet. All applicants travelling to Tibet need to contact your local travel agency to obtain confirmation for group visa of no less than 5 people from the Tourist Bureau of Tibet at Fax: 011-86-891-34632 or 011-86-891-35588, Lhasa, Tibet, China or at Tel : 01-212- 867-0271, Fax: 01-212-599-2892 New York Office of China National Tourist Service, or from China National Tourist Office, Toronto at Tel:(416)599-6636 Fax:(416)599 -6382.
3) for Student "X" visa:
A. Foreign Student Visa Application Form "JW201" or "JW202" issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
B. an enrollment letter from the receiving university in China.
C. Health examination record
4) for Employment/Work "Z" visa:
A. an Employment License issued by the Chinese Labor and Social Security Ministry. For applicants to be working in an academic institution, a confirmation issued by the Chinese State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.
B. an official invitation issued by a concerned authorized agency.
C. Health examination record
5) for Journalist's "J-1" or "J-2" Visa, please first contact the Press Section of the Chinese Consulate General in Calgary.
6) for Crew Members of unscheduled flight of private aircraft or vessels, please first apply with competent Chinese authorities for landing/docking permit.
6. For those born in China,to apply for Chinese Visa with a new Canadian passport (passport recently renewed, no Chinese Visa on it), must submit a previous passport or a photocopy of the personal information page and Chinese Visa page of the previous passport.
7. For those who are not using a Canadian passport to apply for a Chinese visa, please also fill up the supplementary visa application form and bring the original and the photocopy of a valid Permanent Resident Card/Work Permit/Study Permit.
8. Other additional documents deemed necessary by the visa officer.
9. Learn about Chinese visas.
1) Validity of Visa (Enter before) means that you may use the visa to enter into China before 12:00am on the date printed on the visa if there is enough number of entries.. Visas become invalid and can not be extended after the date of Enter Before even if there are Entries left.
2) Entries of visa means the number of entries permitted while visa is valid. Visas become invalid after the applicants fully use the Entries permitted. Entries permitted can not be added or changed. Applicants should apply for another visa after that. Visa becomes invalid if it goes beyond the date of Enter before even if there are some Entries left.
3) Duration of Each Stay after Entry means the longest period the applicants are permitted to stay in China. Duration of Each Stay is counted from the date of entry. Applicants should apply for an extension of the duration at a local county level Public Security Bureau if he or she stays in China longer than the Duration of Each Stay printed on the visa. Z, J-1, D AND X visa holders should apply for resident permit at a local Public Security Bureau no later than 30 days after they enter into China lest they become an illegal resident.
10. Please be noticed that the following aliens may be refused to aboard airlines, to enter into China, or be fined.
1) Those who depart for China without valid visas;
2) Those who depart for China with expired visas;
3) Those who stay in China beyond the duration of stay permitted by visas.
10.The following aliens should take the responsibities by themself:
1) Those who did not fill in the visa application forms completely and correctly.
2) Those whose visas became invalid because they applied for the visas too early.
3) Those who did not get the visas because they applied for the visas too late.
4) Those whose visas became invalid because they change their entry dates.
5) Those who did not check the validity and number of entries of visas and were refused to aboard airlines or enter into China;
6) Those who did not check the categories and duration of each stay of visas and stay in China beyond the permitted period.

For US passport holders, visa fee: 140 CAD for all type.
How to submit application:
You may come to the consulate for application, or send a representative to apply for you. No appointment is required. The regular processing time is 4 working days. For rush service, additional fee of $50 for 1 working day processing (Make sure to submit all required documents before 11:00AM), or $35 for 2-3 working days processing will be charged. Pay by credit card, debit card, money order or company check (NO CASH), when you come to pick up the document at the consulate. After submit your application, please take good care of the "Pick Up Form", and bring the form with you when you pick up.It's the only certificate to prove your identity. If the form was lost or destroyed, please follow the instructions of our Consul.
Important information:
1. The Consulate is entitled to decline a visa application without any explanation.
2. Incomplete information or illegible handwriting on your visa application form may cause the decline of visa application or delay of visa processing.
3. Normally, upon its issuance, a single-entry visa has a validity of three months* for the visa holder to enter mainland China once; a double-entry visa is valid for six months* for the visa holder to enter mainland China twice; a six-month multiple entry visa has a validity of six months* for the visa holder to enter mainland China more than twice; a one-year multiple entry visa is valid for one year* for the visa holder to enter mainland China more than twice.
4. Please be advised that children's name is required to be put on lower right of the applicant's application form if the children's name is included in the applicant's passport and the children are going to accompany the applicant on the trip.
5. Once the application is presented, visa fees, all relevant fees will not be reimbursed even if the application is to be canceled.
Please take good care of the "Pick Up Form", and bring the form with you when you pick up.It's the only certificate to prove your identity. If the form was lost or destroyed, please follow the instructions of our Consul.
