Being A Guardian of Our Common Home---Chinese Consulate General in Calgary hosted Online Celebration of the Chinese National Day & the Mid-Autumn Festival

On September 30, 2020, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Calgary hosted an online gala themed "Jointly Fighting Against COVID-19 & A Community with A Shared Future" to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Gala was broadcasted live through Vimeo, as well as the Consulate General's official website, the Consulate General's official pages on WeChat and Twitter, attracted more than 4300 views on line.

In her speech, Consul General Mme. LU Xu stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to protect our home planet in the face of the pandemic. China was the first to walk out of the outbreak with prompt economic recovery. Although the world is not yet perfect, China will continue to embrace it by continuously contributing to the world peace, global development, and international order.

Mayor Charlie Clark from Saskatoon, Mayor Don Iverson from Edmonton, Councillor Sean Chu from Calgary, Mayor Chris Spearman from Lethbridge City, Reeve Lorne Hickey from Lethbridge County, and President and Vice-Chancellor Bill Flanagan from the University of Alberta were among the distinguished guests who delivered passionate speeches at the event.

The Consulate General staff together with the local Chinese communities presented performances for the celebration.

World-class erhu master GUO Gan and well-known young violinist YU Xiang, who have performed in Calgary previously, were also featured as special guests.

The two short videos made by the Consulate General, "The Story of the Fight Against COVID-19 in China" and "China and Canada's cooperation to Curb the Outbreak", deeply impressed the audience and received loads of feedback.
